In response to the homophobic attack suffered this past weekend in Villabona by a couple, Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO states:
● We strongly and unequivocally condemn the attack suffered by the couple and make available to the victim all the resources at our disposal that they may need for help, support and accompaniment in this situation.
● We demand a public, firm, and swift condemnation from all our institutions. This is a human rights issue, and there is no other option. Silence is unacceptable in the face of aggression.
● We request the commitment of the municipalities of the Basque Country, and in this case Villabona, to join as private prosecutors in those very serious LGBTI attacks that the Basque Government –Berdindu– has defined. This attack occurred on the eve of May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, and highlights the brutality of intolerance towards diversity. Therefore, it is time for a clear and unequivocal commitment.
● Finally, we urge the prosecution to take action against this attack, which is a clear hate crime based on sexual orientation.
