Since 2015 Bilbao has hosted Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO, the Basque LGBTI Pride. A “city and region” initiative to celebrate sexual and gender diversity and public support for the rights of LGBTI people around the world.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO is committed to making Bilbao and Bizkaia an international leader, mainly on the Atlantic axis.
We are also committed to building a proud Bizkaia.
We want to encourage every town and village to have its own programme offering different activities (e.g. theatre, cinema, entertainment activities).
But Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO is much more than Bilbao Bizkaia Pride.
It is a platform that promotes the historical memory of the Basque LGBTI community; it provides a service for reporting cases of aggression and harassment, works with companies to create friendly working environments and promotes an annual cultural and leisure agenda aimed at the LGBTI community.
HARRO is the Basque LGBTI Pride that we celebrate every June in Bilbao Bizkaia.
The initiative includes a wide range of social, artistic, cultural, sporting and awareness-raising activities aimed at celebrating the diversity of the city and the region, recognising the equal rights and open nature of our society in an attractive and supportive way.
Part of the collaboration between different entities, institutions, volunteers, associations, the media and private organisations focuses on this project.
Despite the pandemic, it was clear to us that Pride had to be unconditionally reclaimed and adapted to the circumstances.
So in 2020 and 2021 HARRO was held, with a modified programme but maintaining its main raison d’être: the visibility of LGBTI demands.
In 2022, we returned to our usual format with a programme full of awareness-raising and fun activities, where the Basque language and culture are the identifying elements of our event.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO is a reference initiative for LGBTI+ people in Bilbao-Bizkaia, especially in the Atlantic axis.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO works 365 days in favor of LGBTI+ people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex,…) promoting different initiatives that vindicate the historical memory, the struggle and defend the rights of LGBTI+ people.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO works to create a cultural, sporting and social agenda in the region. In particular, it organises events in June to commemorate 28 June, LGBTI+ Pride Day.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO, for the development of its initiatives, will be nourished by economic and in-kind collaborations from institutions and social and economic agents committed to the LGBTI+ community.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO will work to generate alliances at the local, state and international level with agents allied with LGBTI+ people that will allow the development of joint activities.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO coordinates a network of LGBTI+ people and partner organisations that contribute to defending the rights of the LGBTI+ community.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO will promote studies, initiatives and services to learn about the historical memory and needs of LGBTI+ people in the territory.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO works so that all agents incorporate respect for the LGBTI+ reality within their policies and environments. Its work focuses especially on institutions, social entities, trade unions and companies.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO will value the explicit commitment to implement initiatives in favor of the rights of LGBTI+ people in the framework of the companies.
Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO will not hire companies that directly provide services to political parties, unions and organizations that deny the LGBTI+ reality, within the current legal framework.
