  • Eleven artists from different artistic expressions exhibit their works through which they give voice and presence to social groups such as the LGBTIQ+ community, women, migrants, or people with functional diversity.

“We believe the body is the perfect tool to show ourselves as we truly are, to communicate directly and sincerely, and that the History of Art demonstrates this through hundreds of artists who changed the course of events.” With these words, Clara Fuster Pastor and Elena Gómez Menéndez, curators of this exhibition , perfectly encapsulate the central theme of the exhibition “ Politically (In)correct .” The body as a political manifestation. Gorputza adierazpen politiko gisa , which will be on display from June 12 to 28 in two venues in the city: the headquarters of the Bizkaia General Assembly (Hurtado de Amezaga 6), and Expogela, at the Bilbao Historiko premises (San Francisco 32).

This exhibition is part of Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO , a socio-cultural and activist event that aims to raise the visibility of LGBTQ+ people and defend their rights. Organized by Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO and Bilbao Historiko , this exhibition is undeniable proof that art is a powerful tool for activism: its objective is to showcase other groups whose visibility or voices are not as prominent. It provides a space for these social groups to express themselves, using their own bodies as a political weapon to share their experiences, ideas, and emotions: women, migrants, people with disabilities, transgender people, non-binary people, drag queens, and drag kings often see their ideas distorted by a society that seeks to standardize bodies.

This exhibition has the collaboration of the General Assemblies of Bizkaia (which in previous editions of Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO has supported the project by providing its headquarters for art exhibitions), the Association of Merchants and Companies of San Francisco, Bilbao La Vieja and Zabala, Fekoor (Coordinating Federation of People with Physical Disabilities of Bizkaia), Euskaltzaindia and Ortzadar LGBT Elkartea.
