Ortzadar LGBT Association urges Basquetour to support Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO and promote it abroad as a driving force for LGBTI+ tourism

  • Ortzadar LGBT Elkartea, the association organizing this event for diversity, has come to FITUR with the aim of claiming LGBTI+ cultural spaces and strengthening international alliances with other Pride events.
  • Bilbao Bizkaia BHARRO 2025 will be held between June 13 and 22, 2025.

Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO (BBHARRO), the main Pride event on the Atlantic coast, will be held this year from June 13th to 22nd. Throughout these days, a vibrant rainbow will unfurl across the capital of Bizkaia and other locations in the region, which will be announced later along with the full program of this event celebrating sexual and gender diversity. This will be the eleventh edition. Culture and leisure will once again demonstrate their potential to contribute to the fight for the rights of LGBTI+ people.

Ortzadar LGBT Elkartea, the organizing association of BBHARRO, attended FITUR, the International Tourism Fair held annually in Madrid. The aim was to advance several of the association’s initiatives, including advocating for LGBTI+ cultural spaces and strengthening international alliances with other Pride events. Furthermore, Ortzadar LGBT Elkartea urged Basquetour to support Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO and promote the leading Pride event in the Basque Country and along the Atlantic coast as a driving force for LGBTI+ tourism.

These Pride events, held in cities around the world, have proven their effectiveness and impact in raising awareness of the realities of this community. They are yet another tool in the ongoing social struggle for freedoms.

At Ortzadar LGBT Elkartea, we are committed to the comprehensive involvement of various social and political sectors to make real and effective progress in LGBTI+ rights and freedoms. In this context, during our visit to FITUR, and continuing with our usual work, we held a series of meetings with stakeholders in the tourism sector (hotels, retail, local restaurants, etc.) to encourage them to become allies of diversity, integrate these values into their daily operations as businesses and/or organizations, and adapt their offerings and experiences to the needs of a community seeking welcoming spaces.

Forums like FITUR offer us the opportunity to strengthen these contacts and demand that institutions commit to promoting LGBTI+ cultural spaces that allow Euskadi to be at the forefront of the Atlantic axis and be a diverse tourist destination with values.

During this internationally renowned fair, we also had the opportunity to strengthen relationships with Pride events held around the world, with whom we are already in contact through EPOA ( European Pride Organisers Association) and InterPride ( International Association of Pride Organizers ), organizations to which we belong as Ortzadar LGBT Elkartea. These meetings, along with ongoing communication throughout the year, allow us to share perspectives on current LGBTI+ rights issues and present a united front against hate speech.
