Guided tour on the LGBTI+ history of the Basque Country

Would you like to learn about the group’s history through a guided tour? Don’t wait any longer and sign up.

This guided tour is not just a route, but a great opportunity to learn about the history of the LGBTI+ community, a living experience in which, through a story told in the streets of Bilbao, you will discover everything the community suffered before it became normalized.

For 1 hour and 15 minutes you will explore Bilbao from another perspective: that of pride, resistance and the memory of the LGBTI+ community.

From the Albia Gardens, we’ll travel through spaces that served as refuge and trenches during the Francoist persecution. You’ll hear previously unpublished testimonies, discover hidden archives, and meet the faces of those who broke their silence when everything seemed stacked against them.

We give prominence to lesbian, bisexual, and trans women. To those whom history tried to leave out… but who resisted, fought, and transformed the city with every step.

We’ll talk about the stigma of HIV, yes, but also about the dignity with which it was faced. You’ll see how, from the shadows, spaces of freedom, desire, and community emerged. Corners where love was rebellion and celebration, a way to keep living.

In neighborhoods like the Old Town, some of the first bars and safe spaces emerged, serving as key meeting points. These places offered not only leisure but also mutual support and activism in an era still marked by discrimination.

This visit will also help you discover the different corners of the city that are full of history and heritage.

Bilbao is also about LGBTI+ pride. And this time, you won’t just hear about it, you’ll experience it firsthand.
